Staying Focused

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. (3 John 1:2)

Are there areas of your life that you know should be better but have given up on trying to change them? Maybe you understand that God’s desire is that you prosper and be in health, but for whatever reason you have stopped actively believing for those things to come to pass. Maybe you were believing for a breakthrough that never happened so you put it on the back-burner.

Well, you’re not alone. Most people, including myself, tend to have waves of motivation in which we have a days or weeks of speaking God’s truths over our circumstances—then life happens. Work gets busy, the kids have sporting events you need to get them to, and all the things you know to be true become less urgent. So, what do we do? How can we keep that drive?

As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue (2 Peter 1:3)

First, stop beating yourself up. God has given (past tense) you all things that pertain to life and godliness. Everything you will ever need for life was provided through the resurrection of Jesus! The fact that you have gotten busy doesn’t change what God has already done for you. Feeling guilty won’t do you any favors.

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

Next, chill out. Jesus said if you come to Him, He will give you rest. If you’re stressed out, feeling guilty, and questioning everything you know to be true, more than likely you’re looking to yourself to make everything happen and have stopped turning to Jesus. Remember, it’s already done so stop putting so much pressure on yourself.

In a previous post, I explain how salvation is more than a ticket to Heaven, it’s about Jesus getting Heaven into you! If we could learn to rest our minds and remind ourselves about the power that is on the inside of us, those things will begin to come to the surface effortlessly.

God wants you to experience His love and grace even more than you do! Do whatever you can to remind yourself of what He’s already done. Surround yourself with people who will reinforce these truths, turn off talk-radio and listen to some good teachings, get involved in a grace-based church

Everything we will ever need for life was given to us through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, but our minds tend to suppress it. It’s now our job to position ourselves in a way that allows those things to surface. It’s not about you doing anything! It simply comes by resting in the presence of Jesus.
